Sohar International and Sohar Islamic Supports Over 100 Families in Al Wusta Governorate Through Its ‘Sohar Al Attaa’ Initiative

As part of their steadfast commitment to advancing national economic development and fostering community progress, Sohar International and Sohar Islamic launched their charitable initiative, ‘Sohar Al Attaa’, in conjunction with the Holy Month of Ramadan. The initiative was carried out in collaboration with the Walis’ Offices in the Wilayats of Mahoot and Al Jazir, and in coordination with several charitable teams operating across both Wilayats.

This collaboration reflects a structured institutional approach aimed at ensuring aid is delivered to eligible beneficiaries, strengthening sustainable community partnerships, and extending support to the communities they serve—particularly in remote areas and among the most vulnerable segments.

As part of the Ramadan initiative, comprehensive food supply boxes and fish preservation freezers were distributed to 100 low-income families in the remote areas of the Wilayats of Mahoot and Al Jazir in Al Wusta Governorate. The provision of fish freezers to local fishermen further supports the stability of their households and contributes to sustaining their livelihoods over the long term.

Commenting on the initiative, Abdulwahid bin Mohamed Al Murshidi, Chief Executive Officer of Sohar International, stated: “Ramadan is not only a season of giving, but a reminder of the responsibility institutions carry in shaping resilient and inclusive communities. At Sohar International, community investment is embedded within our broader sustainability agenda and the way we deliver long-term value across the Sultanate.  Through Sohar Al Attaa, our social arm, we take a deliberate and structured approach to outreach — ensuring that our support addresses immediate needs while strengthening livelihoods and economic participation. By focusing on underserved regions and working communities, including fishermen and low-income households, we aim to create impact that is practical, dignified, and sustainable.  Our objective is not limited to seasonal assistance; it is to contribute meaningfully to social stability and economic resilience in the areas we serve, reinforcing our role as a responsible financial partner in Oman’s continued development.”

The Sohar Al Attaa initiative is designed around a needs-based engagement model that prioritizes targeted and context-driven assistance. This year, the initiative focused on the Fishermen in both targeted Wilayats due to the vital role they play in supporting local food security The program is structured to align contributions with the specific socio-economic conditions of beneficiary groups, ensuring that resources deliver practical and sustainable value. By focusing on tailored outreach and beneficiary-specific requirements, the program enhances effectiveness while supporting broader social stability across remote regions.

Employee volunteers from Sohar International and Sohar Islamic actively participated in the distribution efforts, reflecting the bank’s broader culture of volunteerism and social engagement. The involvement of employees highlights the organization’s emphasis on encouraging staff to contribute to social initiatives beyond their professional responsibilities.

Through such initiatives, Sohar International and Sohar Islamic continue to demonstrate its focus on responsible corporate citizenship and inclusive development. The bank’s engagement efforts are guided by principles of empathy and long-term value creation, reflecting a balanced approach that aligns economic participation with social well-being.
