APSR Endorses Discounts on Electricity Bills During Summer Months
The Authority for Public Services Regulation (APSR) has approved the reduction rates on electricity consumption bills for the residential category (basic account) during the summer months (May to August 2024).
The APSR announced that it would apply the 2023 summer tariff in 2024. The step aims to keep electricity bills at affordable rates at a time when temperatures keep rising, prompting consumers to use more electrical energy, APSR explained.
The Authority directed companies operating in this sector to calculate the discount rates starting from May 2024 to August 2024. It pledged to follow up on those companies’ application of the tariff in electricity bills during the summer months of 2024.
The APSR pointed out that rates for the three consumption segments during May 2024 would be applied as follows: Those in the first segment (0 to 4000 kilowatts) will receive a 15 per cent discount on the value of the bill; consumers in the second segment (from 4001-6000 kilowatts) will receive a 10 per cent discount on the value of their bills; while the third segment of consumers (who use more than 6,001 kilowatts) will receive a 5 per cent discount on the value of their bills.
During the months of June, July and August 2024, the discounts on the value of electricity bills will be as follows: 20 per cent for the first segment consumers (from 0 to 4000 kilowatts); 15 per cent for the second segment consumers (from 4001 to 6000 kilowatts) and 10 per cent for the third segment of consumers (more than 6001 kilowatts), said APSR.
