Oman’s Salalah Port Recognized As 6th Best Port Globally By World Bank

Muscat: In a proud moment for all of Oman, The Port of Salalah has been adjudged the 6th best port all over the world in terms of handling of large container vessels – by the Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) for 2020 and also, by the World Bank and HIS Markit who released a report analysing the services at 351 ports worldwide.
According to the report – Ports, the world over, played a vital role in keeping services and trade, active during the pandemic and as such, Port of Salalah was highlighted as being one of the best in ensuring streamlined logistics and continued maritime trade despite the dangers of the pandemic.
Another UN body, United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), ranked Port Salalah at the 1st position in its annual UNCTAD Index for 2020. According to UNCTAD’s Port Liner Shipping Connectivity Index (PLSCI), the Port of Salalah provides the highest liner shipping connectivity in Oman and has continued to do so since, the establishment of the PLSCI in 2006.
The Port of Salalah in turn recognised that there were several departments that contributed and factored in the success of the Port’s Operation and reiterated that the efficiency and quick turnaround time is attributed to departments such as, maritime service departments at the port, the Directorate General of Customs at the Royal Oman Police and the Ministry of Health.

Meanwhile, Scott Selman, CEO of the container terminal of Port of Salalah stated, “I’m happy to see the strong efforts of the Port of Salalah team being recognised. The team has done a fantastic job deploying lean tools through our way of working to drive safety and efficiency for our customers. We will continue to collaborate closely with our global customers to deliver world-class service.”
