Oman Hockey Team Secures 27th Rank Globally, Sixth In Asia
Oman’s national hockey team ranked 27th in the world and sixth in Asia, thus maintaining its global and Asian ranks for the last three years.
This comes following the new international classification of teams issued by the International Hockey Federation.
On 27th March, the Oman Hockey Association (OHA) submitted its application to the International Hockey Federation to host the FIH Hockey5s World Cup 2023. The decision of this yet to be finalised.
Talib bin Khamis Al Wahaibi, Chairman of the Board of Oman Hockey Association (OHA), had earlier said that the OHA had received approval from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth on applying to host the event.
The first edition of the tournament is slated for October 2023 with 16 men and women teams competing in the joint event. Oman is reportedly bidding alongside India, Malaysia, South Africa, and Holland to host the global event.
As per The Hockey Paper, a web resource for hockey news, FIH requirements stipulate that stadia must be a minimum of 5,000 spectators, with the hosting fee set at US$500,000.
