ESP Effect: Muscat Municipality Suspends Tax Collection For Some Activities In Oman

Muscat: The Muscat Municipality has passed a decision to suspend tax collection in some sectors in a bid to assist companies weather the economic repercussions brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
This decision comes following the introduction of the economic stimulus package that aims to mitigate the economic downturn caused by the Coronavirus in the Sultanate.

Hotels, tourist restaurants, cinemas, and entertainment centers are among those services that will be exempted from paying the tax. The incentive will be extended until December 31, 2021.
A statement issued by the municipality stated: “Following the economic stimulus package mitigating the repercussions of COVID-19, Muscat Municipality taxes collected from hotels, tourist restaurants, cinemas, entertainment centres has been suspended until the end of December 2021.”
