UAE telco Etisalat appoints Obaid Humaid Al Tayer as new chairman
The United Arab Emirates telecoms operator Etisalat (Emirates Telecommunication Group Company PJSC) has appointed Obaid Humaid Al Tayer as the new chairman. The company is yet to make a formal announcement on the same.
Al Tayer takes over the mantle from Eissa Al Suwaidi, who reportedly resigned for personal reasons.
Al Tayer is the current Minister of State for Financial Affairs in UAE and has held several key positions. He previously served as a member of the board of directors at Etisalat from 1981 to 1991. His also held positions such as board member of Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry from 1982 – 1991; member of Dubai Municipal Council from 1982 – 1990; and member of Federal National Council from 1981-1985.

He graduated from University of Colorado, USA, with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
As per company statement, the Etisalat Group’s consolidated net profit touched AED 6.7 billion, up 2.1 percent during the same period last year.
