Duqm Hongtong Pipes Company, a Chinese-Omani partnership, held the ground-breaking ceremony of the Sultanate’s first factory for manufacturing Reinforced Thermopolyethlene Pipes at the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Duqm.
The factory is built over an area of 60,000sqm and aims at an annual production capacity of around 1,2000km of Reinforced Thermopolyethylene pipes (RTP). The first batch is expected by the second quarter of 2020 and the products will meet the technical specifications of Petroleum Development of Oman (PDO and the American Institute of Petroleum.
According to Dr Shao Longnan, General Manager of Hongtong Duqum Pipe Company, “The construction of the production plant is set to start later this month and expected to last for approximately 10 to 12 months.”
News reports quoted the Chairman of Weihai Hongtong Pipe as welcoming the move and stressing that one of the important reasons for their investment in the Sultanate is the exchange of technologies and the benefit of competitive advantages offered by the open business environment in the Sultanate.
Also quoted was Dawood bin Sulaiman al Farsi, Partner and General Manager of Technical and Marketing Affairs, who expressed pleasure on being the first in the country to establish this business, “which meets the increasing demand of RTP in Oman and the region.”
Apart from meeting both local and international demands of non-metallic pipes, the factory will also contribute to the InCountry value process in the Sultanate, by providing job opportunities in various fields in both Duqm and Muscat. At a later stage, Oman-made products will also be promoted and supplied to regional and international markets, depending upon the demands.
