OPEC Secretary General, IEA Executive Director lead Selection Committee for 2016 Al-Attiyah International Energy Awards

The heads of the world’s most influential energy institutions, OPEC’s Secretary General H.E. Abdalla Salem El-Badri and the IEA’s Executive Director, Dr Fatih Birol, lead the Selection Committee for The 2016 Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah International Energy Awards at Doha’s Museum of Islamic Art on May 24th.

The Al-Attiyah International Energy Awards celebrate the legacy of H.E. Al-Attiyah, Qatar’s former Minister of Energy & Industry and Deputy Prime Minister, by recognizing the career achievements of distinguished individuals in service of the global energy industry.

“I am honoured to join the world-leading figures on the Selection Committee for the 2016 Awards to appreciate and applaud great pioneers of the global energy markets, especially during times of such market volatility,” said OPEC’s Secretary General H.E. Abdalla Salem El-Badri.

OPEC’s El-Badri and the IEA’s Dr Birol will be joined on the Selection Committee by Qatar Petroleum’s Board Member Nasser Khalil Al-Jaidah and OPEC’s Former Deputy Secretary General Dr Ramzi Salman. The IHEID’s Executive Master in Oil & Gas Leadership Professor Giacomo Luciani and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry Chairman, Energy Security Group, Narendra Taneja, will join the group, along with IRENA’s Deputy Director of the Knowledge, Policy & Finance Centre Dr Rabia Ferroukhi.

“His Excellency Al-Attiyah’s unique and accomplished career has taught energy professionals around the world vital lessons on how to succeed. I am delighted to be on the esteemed Selection Committee to recognize and honour others who are also making significant contributions to the global energy markets,” said IEA’s Executive Director Dr Fatih Birol.

The 2016 Award winners will be presented with their Lifetime Achievements by H.E. Al-Attiyah during the gala dinner, which will be supported by Maersk Oil Qatar and attended by leading members of Qatari society and industry, along with their international counterparts.

Four winners from The 2015 Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah International Energy Awards are part of this year’s Selection Committee. The IEA’s Dr Birol won the ‘Lifetime Achievement for the Advancement of Producer-Consumer Dialogue’, while Qatar Petroleum’s Al-Jaidah won the ‘Lifetime Achievement for the Advancement of The Qatar Energy Industry’. OPEC’s Dr Ramzi Salman won the ‘Lifetime Achievement for the Advancement of OPEC’ and IHEID’s Professor Giacomo Luciani won the ‘Lifetime Achievement for the Advancement of Education for Future Energy’.

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Petroleum and Natural Resources, H.E. Ali Al-Naimi will deliver The 2016 Abdullah Bin Hamad Al-Attiyah International Energy Awards Lecture. The annual Lecture provides the National and International audience with an outlook for the energy industry, delivering insights on the possible implications of current trends for the international markets in the year ahead.
