Omantel pioneers 5G Technology through more network expansions

Omantel – the leading company in providing integrated telecommunication services in the Sultanate – continues its pioneering role in providing the 5G technology since it has launched the first 5G network in the Sultanate at the end of last year by expanding its network and adding new sites in a number of governorates
As part of its plans for expanding the 5G network, new stations have been added in the Wilayats where the service was previously launched. Furthermore, new stations were installed in a number of regions in 5 Wilayats where the 5G network was introduced for the first time. These Wilayats are Salalah, Taqa, Sur, Samail and Bahlaa. As a result, thousands of subscribers in these regions will be able to enjoy Home Internet with high speeds up to 1 Gbps.
Commenting on this, Engineer Aladddin Abdullah Bait Fadhil, Acting Vice President, Consumer Business Unit at Omantel, said: “5G technology is the latest addition to our network. Since we launched it last year, the network enabled us to offer high-speed Home Internet in several new regions. This, in turn, would support our contribution to enabling the digital transformation in the Sultanate”.
“We are proud of our subscribers’ response to the 5G technology. Over the past few months, new customers subscribed to different packages of our 5G Home Internet service enjoying incomparable Internet speeds up to 1 Gbps which is perfect for online entertainment and games in addition to downloading and watching videos and movies easily. Our customers can choose from four different 5G Home Internet plans starting from RO 25. The 5G Home plan offers download speeds up to 20 Mbps, whereas the 5G Gaming offers speeds up to 40 Mbps, the 5G Entertainment which is the most popular plan offers download speeds up to 80 Mbps and the 5G Premium offers download speeds up to 1Gbps ” Bait Fadhil added.
It is worth mentioning that 5G technology is considered one of the enabling technologies of the 4th industrial revolution such as the Internet of things, artificial intelligence, blockchain technology and mega data technology. It is envisaged that the services to be provided through the 5G network will lead to a breakthrough in many sectors including education, health, transportation and entertainment. Besides, it is a key component in future smart cities projects.
