Transport Ministry Outlines 5-Year Executive Plan Of Government Digital Transformation

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology has unveiled the executive plan of government digital transformation for the period 2021-2025.
The programme set a roadmap for utilising modern techniques to develop public sector functioning, notably by creating digital platforms for services, as well as a legal and regulatory climate that empowers digital transformation.
The government digital transformation programme stems from the National Digital Economy Programme, which constitutes one of the main pillars of Oman Vision 2040. It envisages developing a future-oriented, flexible, and innovative system based on principles of governance that deliver innovative performances and offer high-quality smart services.
The programme comprises a number of basic pillars that constitute the main components of digital transformation, including smart services, proactive measures, innovative digital solutions and applications, open data, and opportunities for electronic community participation.
The digital transformation programme comprises a number of elements, including:
● The element of data unification.
● The element of digital integration among government units.
● The element of joint management of platforms and solutions.
● The element of revision and calibration of legislations based on the rapid change of technical updates.
● The element of cybersecurity and protection of digital channels during access to cyberspace.
The volume of investment on the programme is expected to stand at RO170mn to be utilised in improving procedures, reengineering government services, automating basic services, propagation of services via the internet, the development of centralised digital solutions, the improvement of the digital infrastructure, and the empowerment of national teams specialised digital transformation skills.
