With effect from today, Lufthansa, the German airlines under the Lufthansa Group, has decided to stop flying to and from Oman, which according to the company sources, is part of optimising its portfolio and an effort to serve its customers across the region.
However, all those who have reservations with this airline to fly to and from Muscat, will be served by Swiss Air, a sister concern of the airline which is part of the global aviation group that offers a large network of flights from their Zurich Hub, according to the sources.
“The Lufthansa Group is currently optimising its portfolio of destinations and gateways across the entire Gulf region. To this end we are adapting our offer to the demand of each market, working closely with the Group airlines in order to better serve our customers across the region,” Lufthansa spokesperson told one of the newspaper in Oman.
Mezoon Travel, the local GSA (General Sales Agent) of the German airline that carries a tagline ‘nonstop you’,  has confirmed that it is in receipt of a correspondence to this effect.
“We have received a letter from Lufthansa stating that it will not fly to and from Muscat from October 25 due to expansion in its European network and that Oman passengers will be served by Swiss Air”, the GSA said.
Lufthansa is part of the five major operating segments of the Group since 2014, the others being Passenger Airline Group, Logistics, MRO, Catering and, up to the end of 2014, IT Services. This five segments were formed combining nearly 540 subsidiaries and equity investments in 2014.
The biggest operating segment in the Lufthansa Group is the Passenger Airline Group. Lufthansa Passenger Airlines, Swiss and Austrian Airlines are network carriers serving the global market and all passenger segments.
While Germanwings operates direct flights within Europe, Brussels Airlines and the German-Turkish charter airline SunExpress complete the airline portfolio.
