Honoring Omani Legacy: Roads Named After Iconic Leaders
The decision to name several landmarks and roads in the Sultanate of Oman after its esteemed leaders and historical figures reflects the Royal Vision of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik. This initiative underscores Oman’s deep-rooted cultural and historical heritage while reinforcing national identity, pride, and loyalty to the country.
Oman boasts a rich heritage spanning thousands of years across various fields, and the recent naming of key roads after prominent Omani leaders further highlights this legacy. By honouring national and historical figures, these Royal directives celebrate Oman’s illustrious past and acknowledge the pivotal role of its leaders in shaping the nation.
Among the renamed roads:
- Sultan Thuwaini bin Said Road – connects the governorates of Muscat, Al Dakhiliyah, Al Dhahirah, and Al Buraimi.
- Sultan Turki bin Said Road – formerly Al Sharqiyah Expressway.
- Sultan Faisal bin Turki Road – formerly Khasab-Lima-Dibba Road in Musandam Governorate.
- Sultan Taimur bin Faisal Road – formerly Al Batinah Coastal Road.
- Sultan Qaboos bin Said Road – formerly Muscat – Al Batinah Road.
These roads join a distinguished list of landmarks already named after Omani historical figures, including military camps, schools, mosques, and university lecture halls – further embedding the nation’s legacy into its everyday landscape.
