Who Is Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti – Oman’s New Health Minister?
An illustrious career in the medical industry in Oman moves to the next level for Dr. Hilal Al Sabti as he will take charge as the new Health Minister of the Sultanate.
His appointment to the Ministerial position comes following a Royal Decree issued by His Majesty Sultan Haitham Bin Tarik – and he will succeed His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Al Saidi to take on his new role.
Dr. Hilal – a dedicated medical professional and a renowned Cardiothoracic Surgeon – is currently serving as the Executive President of the Oman Medical Specialty Board (OMSB) and played his hand in the national fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
A bio that reads in length, Dr. Hilal’s achievements include leading the cardiac surgery team conducting the first artificial heart transplantation procedure in 2014. In April 2015, he led the cardiac surgery team at the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital in “planting a valve inside a valve in the aorta and mitral valves through a catheter”.
We also learn that in 2013, a team of cardiac surgeons, under the leadership of Dr. Hilal, and cardiac anaesthetists at the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, successfully conducted TAVI procedures on four patients over 75 years.
For his services to the medical industry, the nation, and the development of the health and medical services sector in the country, in November 2015, (The Late) His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said (May His Soul Rest In Peace) honoured Al Sabti with the Oman Civil Order (3rdclass).
