Suspected Hijackers Leave Ship Off UAE In Gulf Of Oman
Authorities said that the people who boarded and seized an abandoned ship in the Gulf of Oman and all those who remained on the ship were safe.
A British maritime safety agency stated that the possible hijacking of the MV Asphalt Princess flying the Panamanian flag has ended, but did not provide more details.
On Tuesday, the asphalt tanker was seized while sailing towards the crowded Strait of Hormuz.
It is not clear who seized the ship, but analysts suspect that it was the Iranian army.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guards rejected reports of possible involvement, believing that this was an excuse for taking “hostile actions” against Tehran.
According to reports, the man who boarded the MV Asphalt Princess was heavily armed and ordered to go to Iran.
The UK Maritime Commercial Operations (UKMTO) initially warned the ship of an accident, and a few hours later announced that it was “possible to hijack.”
On Wednesday, UKMTO said on Twitter that the people who boarded the ship had left, and added: “The ship is safe.
It was completely an accident.” Less than a week after the incident, an Israeli company-operated oil tanker was near Oman. It was hit by a drone, killing two security guards, one British and the other Romanian.
