Muscat: Oman’s Ministry of Labour has imposed a ban on hiring expats in select professions in commercial and consumer malls across the Sultanate.
A statement issued by the Ministry today [March 23] read that jobs in sales, accounting, cashier, and management in commercial and consumer malls will be restricted to Omani nationals only.
The Ministry has also Omanised jobs related to merchandise arrangement in stores. These decisions will come into effect from July 20, 2021.
“The Ministry of Labour instructs owners of commercial and consumer malls to adhere to Ministerial Resolution No. 8/2021, which will be implemented from July 20, 2021,” the statement from the Ministry of Labour added.
As per the new decision, licenses for expat workers whose visas have expired will not be renewed.
