omanoil headquarters and Baushar filling station plunge into darkness for Earth Hour 2016
Oman Oil Marketing Company (omanoil) joined millions around the world in solidarity for Earth Hour 2016. Taking action for the planet, the company’s headquarters in Al Qurum and its Baushar filling station plunged into darkness between 8:30 pm and 9:30 pm on March 19, 2016.
For the fourth consecutive year, omanoil has lead by example to help achieve a sustainable future. In addition to its brick and mortar participation, the company encouraged responsible behavior amongst its employees and customers, highlighting the importance and impact of switching off non-essential lights for Earth Hour. Faisal Al Shanfari, omanoil’s General Manager for Shared Services said, “Climate change is a serious challenge that faces everyone living on this earth and it is our responsibility as a corporation and as individuals to take a stand to conserve energy for a better tomorrow.”
Going beyond the hour, omanoil implements proactive and eco-friendly practices across its operations and supply chain. Green procedures enable the company to reduce its carbon-footprint, while HSSE training courses educate employees on the importance of environmental sustainability. omanoil’s 174 filling stations are also equipped with state-of-the-art leak detection systems to ensure effective and timely response to problems, while its aluminum road-transport tankers increase efficiency and reduce fuel intake. In addition, energy is conserved at forecourts with LED lights that cut power consumption by over 40 per cent. The company has also installed an air monitoring system at the Mina Al Fahal refinery to measure and control emission levels.
