Oman’s petrol output falls 12.9 per cent in January
The Sultanate’s petrol production in January posted a 12.9% fall year-on-year, with output shrinking to 6.07 million barrels as against 6.97 million barrels last year, according to the latest data released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). The total petrol output last year stood at 85.96 million bbl.

The Sultanate produced 389,700 barrels of regular (90) petrol in January, logging a significant 74.3% rise over the output in the same month last year, which stood at 223,500 bbl.
At the same time, super (95) petrol production plummeted 17.5% to 1.46 million bbl from 1.77 million bbl in 2015.
Last year’s aggregate output by Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Co (Orpic) of regular and super petrol stood at 2.02 million bbl and 23.34 million bbl respectively.
Regular petrol accounted for just 2% of Orpic’s total petroleum products output, while super petrol had a share of 28%.
Meanwhile, there was a marked increase of 11.3% in the production of jet fuel (aviation fuel) in January, which surged to 436,400 bbl from 392,100 bbl in the same month last year.
Gas oil output too recorded a fall of 8.3% to 1.62 million bbl compared with 1.77 million bbl last year. Fuel oil fell 81.4% to hit 29,000 bbl from 156,000 bbl last year; while LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) output declined 46% to 152,300 bbl as against 282,300 bbl produced in January 2015.
The long residual declined 13.2% to 1.5 million bbl from 1.72 million bbl, while Propylene production recorded a steep fall of 90.1% at 19,800 bbl as against 201,000 in 2015.
In contrast, the Sultanate’s improved its SR Naphtha output by 31.3% to reach 419,600 bbl from 319,500 bbl in January 2015. Other products showed a fall in output of 73.1% during the month to stand at 31.7 thousand barrel, compared with 117.9 thousand in the same period in 2015.
