Electricity production in Oman rose to more than 25.4 thousand gigawatts (GW), reflecting a 12.1 per cent increase, as of the end of September 2015, compared with 2014.
The same applies to the water sector, in which production grew to exceed 218.7 million cubic meters, with an increase of 5.6 per cent recorded at the end of August 2015, according to the latest statistics released by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
The Sultanate’s total electricity production until the end of September 2015 stood at 25,484.6 GW per hour, compared with 22,735.4 GW per hour in the corresponding period of 2014, constituting a rise by 12.1 per cent.
The Governorates of North and South Al Batinah, as well as the Governorate of Al Dhahirah recorded the highest rate at the governorates level as production in these governorates were pegged at 12,888.9 GW per hour, showing an increase of 1.8 per cent, compared with 12,658.3 GW per hour in the same period last year.
The Governorates of North and South Al Sharqiyah reported the biggest jump in production, compared with corresponding period last year.
The growth rate was pegged at 138.7 per cent, bringing the total production in the two governorates to 4,277.4 GW per hour in September 2015, from 1,792.1 GW per hour a year ago.
Total electricity production in the Governorate of Muscat touched 4,359.8 GW per hour, indicating a decline of 7.5 per cent, compared with the production recorded during the same period of 2014, when it was estimated to be 4,712.5 GW per hour.
The total electricity production in the Governorate of Dhofar reached 2,441.3 GW per hour at the end of September 2015, showing an increase of 8.2 per cent, compared with the production recorded during the same period of 2014, which reached 2,256.7 GW per hour. In the Governorate of Musandam, total electricity production reached 283.5 GW per hour, rising 7.9 per cent from the production recorded during the same period in 2014, which reached 262.9 GW per hour.
The total electricity production in the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah reached 995.5 GW per hour, up 10 per cent from 905 GW per hour, a year ago.
In Al Wusta, total electricity production touched 238.2 GW per hour, jumping 60.8 per cent, compared with the production of 148.2 GW per hour recorded during the same period of 2014.
The Sultanate’s net electricity production, as of the end of last September 2015, was 25,024.2 GW per hour, compared with the figures recorded during the same period of 2014, when it was said to be 22,270 GW per hour, resulting in a growth rate of 12.8 per cent.
This production included the procurements made by the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) and the procurements made by the Rural Areas Electricity Company (RAEC).
Biggest share
The statistics issued by the NCSI indicated that the biggest share in net electricity production was contributed by the Governorates of North and South Al Sharqyiah. The net production recorded in these governorates at the end of last September 2015 was 4,626.4 GW per hour, surging 140.8 per cent from 1,770.1 GW per hour, in 2014.
The net production in the Governorates of North and South Al Batinah, in addition to the Governorate of Al Dhahirah at the end of September 2015 reached 12,705.5 GW per hour, up 1.9 per cent from 12,465.6 GW per hour, in 2014.
The net electricity production in the Governorate of Muscat reached 4,214.9 GW per hour at the end of last September 2015, compared with 4,588.6 GW per hour recorded last year, indicating a slump of 8.1 per cent. -ONA
Net production in the Governorate of Dhofar at the end of last September 2015 reached 2322.2 GW per hour, compared with the net production recorded during the same period of 2014, when it reached 2,122.4 GW per hour with the help of a 9.4 per cent increase in production.
The net production in the Governorate of Musandam at the end of last September 2015 was 271.8 GW per hour, compared with the net production recorded during the same period of 2014, when it reached 249.5 GW per hour, showing an increase of 8.9 per cent.
The net production in the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah at the end of last September 2015 reached 988.4 GW per hour, compared with the net production recorded during the same period of 2014, which reached 897.9 GW per hour, up10.1 per cent.
The net production in the Governorate of Al Wusta at the end of last September 2015 reached 259.2 GW per hour, compared with the net production recorded during the same period of 2014, which was 175.7 GW per hour, rising 47.5 per cent.
On the other hand, the Sultanate’s production of water till the end of August 2015 reached 218,732,200 cubic meters, up 5.6 per cent, compared with the water production recorded during the same period of 2014, when it reached 207,205,200 cubic meters.
Water production in the Governorate of Muscat increased by 68.8 per cent to touch 100,404,400 cubic meters, compared with the production recorded during the same period of 2014, when it reached 59,483,500 cubic meters.
The water production in the Governorate of Dhofar rose 11 per cent to reach 24,630,400 cubic meters, compared with the production recorded during the same period of 2014, when it reached 22.182.200 cubic meters.
Water production in the other governorates decreased by 25.4 per cent to reach 93.697.300 cubic meters, compared with the production recorded during the same period of 2014, when it reached 125.539.500 cubic meters.
