Oman Marks 50th Anniversary Of UN Membership With Commemorative Stamp
Muscat: The Foreign Ministry and in collaboration with Oman Post, launched a commemorative stamp to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Sultanate of Oman’s membership of the United Nations. Oman’s flag was raised at the United Nations headquarters in New York, the USA on October 8th, 1971 as the 131st member state.
The new stamp was unveiled during a ceremony held at the Foreign Ministry under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Kamil bin Fahad bin Mahmood Al-Said, and attendance of H.E. Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi, Foreign Minister, and H.E. Eng. Said bin Hamood bin Said Al Mawali, Minister of Transport, Communications and Information Technology. The ceremony was also attended by undersecretaries and representatives of the Foreign Ministry and Oman Post.
The stamp features a photograph of the late H.H. Sayyid Tarik bin Taimur Al Said, delivering the Sultanate of Oman’s first speech on the occasion of its membership of the United Nations.
