Sohar International Drives Energy Sector Dialogue to Accelerate Oman’s Economic Growth
Sohar International reaffirmed its commitment to driving the energy sector and enabling sustainable economic growth through its joint symposium ‘Oman’s Energy Sector in a Reshaped Gulf: Driving Economic Growth, Investment, and Global Competitiveness.’
The symposium was held in collaboration with Oman Energy Association (OPAL) and brought together a distinguished group of experts, senior executives, and decision-makers from both the energy and financial sectors.
As a key pillar of Oman’s economy, the energy sector is undergoing rapid transformation. The symposium provided a platform to explore this evolution across the Sultanate of Oman and the wider Gulf region, with a focus on unlocking promising investment opportunities and strengthening the sector’s role in driving GDP growth and enhancing Oman’s regional and global competitiveness.
Commenting on the initiative, Abdulwahid Mohamed Al Murshidi, Chief Executive Officer, Sohar International said: “At Sohar International, we see our role extending beyond banking. We are committed to being an enabler of growth in strategic sectors. The energy sector is central to Oman’s future, and through platforms like this symposium, we aim to drive dialogue, mobilise investment, and forge the partnerships needed to position Oman as a globally competitive energy hub.”
Throughout the discussions, participants examined emerging opportunities for capital deployment in renewables, gas, hydrogen, and energy infrastructure, while also addressing the key challenges and policy frameworks needed to accelerate the energy transition.
Eng. Mohammed Hamood Al Naabi, Chief Executive Officer, Oman Energy Association (OPAL), said: “The partnership with Sohar International reflects our shared commitment to advancing Oman’s energy sector. OPAL believes that strong collaboration between industry and finance is essential to unlock investment, drive innovation, and ensure the sector continues to support Oman’s economic diversification and the goals of Vision 2040.”
The symposium emphasised the importance of building strategic collaboration between financial institutions and energy companies to support large-scale projects aligned with Oman Vision 2040. It further reinforced the role of the private sector in achieving the objectives of the national vision through innovation, financing, and sustainable development.
Sohar International continues to play an active role in financing and advising projects that support energy security, diversification, and sustainability. By bringing together stakeholders from across the ecosystem, the bank aims to contribute meaningfully to a resilient and future-ready energy sector that supports long-term prosperity for Oman.
