Electricity production in Oman increases by 6.8 percent by May 2026

The total electricity production in the Sultanate of Oman increased by 6.8 percent by the end of May 2026 to reach 20,314.0 gigawatt-hours, compared to 19,027.4 gigawatt-hours during the same period in 2025.

The latest preliminary data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information showed that net electricity production (which includes purchases by the Oman Power and Water Procurement Company and the Rural Areas Electricity Company by region) increased by 6.8 percent, to reach 19,717.5 gigawatt-hours, compared to 18,457.6 gigawatt-hours during the same period of the previous year.

Regarding water, total production decreased by 3.4 percent, reaching 201,255.4 thousand cubic meters. Muscat Governorate recorded a decrease of 6.8 percent, as production declined from 83,653.9 thousand cubic meters until the end of May 2025 to 78,000.6 thousand cubic meters in the same period of 2026.

In contrast, the production of Dhofar Governorate increased by 2.9 percent to reach 32,086.4 thousand cubic meters, compared to 31,183.9 thousand cubic meters during the same period of 2025, while the production of the rest of the governorates decreased by 2.5 percent to reach 91,168.5 thousand cubic meters compared to 93,459.4 thousand cubic meters in the same period of the previous year.
