Bank Nizwa announces pre-Ramadan football fiesta from today

Under the patronage of H.E. Eng. Mohammed Al Ghasani, Vice President of Majlis Al Shura, the first edition of the ‘Bank Nizwa Cup Tournament’ was launched in collaboration with Samail Club. The announcement was followed by the pre-Ramadan tournament’s draw, which will see 10 teams from Samail compete for the coveted trophy from May 5th to 15th 2016.
Dr. Ashraf Al Nabhani, General Manager Corporate Support said, “We are proud to be working with the Samail Club and play a part in supporting this action packed tournament, which will bring Omani youth together and provide them with an opportunity to showcase their talent. We believe in the power of sports, its values and its ability to inspire the leaders of tomorrow on and off the pitch.”
H.E. Younis bin Ya’aqoob al Siyabi, Majlis Al Shura Member, Representative of Samail and Chairman of Samail Club said, “In its first edition, the ‘Bank Nizwa Cup Tournament’ promises to captivate sports fans across Oman ahead of the holy month of Ramadan. It will provide a valuable prospect for players to test their skills, while forming and extending friendships with their fellow competitors.”
The tournament kicks-off with two preliminary round matches; Al-Samdi takes on Al-Shabiba, while Al-Ain plays Al-Qabasan, with the winners qualifying to meet Hasas and Al-Shabab respectively in the quarterfinals. The other two matches in the quarterfinals will see Sayja’a play Al-Saqr and Hail meeting Al-Mazen. The tournament’s champions will be crowned on May 15th 2015.
Since opening its doors three years ago, Bank Nizwa has been dedicated to the wellbeing of local communities through targeted CSR programs that empower Omani youth. To date, the Bank has organized and partnered with public and private institutions in a number of initiatives that harness the knowledge and skillsets of young Omanis, including Quran and sports competitions. Other community initiatives involved beach clean-up campaigns and blood donation drives.
