L&T Oman to work on $93m Sohar Airport contract

In a latest development in the construction sector Larsen & Toubro Oman has bagged an order worth US$93.1 mn for the construction of a passenger terminal at Sohar Airport along with other services buildings.

L&T announced that it has got the contract to construct a regional airport in Oman worth US$93.1mn. It further stated that the works include construction of a passenger terminal building, an ATC complex, cargo and other service buildings including mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) works, special systems and external works.
The project is scheduled to be completed in 24 months. The other three bidders for the contract were Carillion Allawi, Strabag Oman and Joannou and Paraskevaides Oman. According to the Oman Airports Management Company (OAMC), Sohar Airport will provide an alternative, quicker route for travellers wishing to access the north of Oman.
Sohar Airport is the third airport project to be executed by L&T in Oman, the company said. In 2014, the company won the US$94m contract to build a new passenger terminal at Duqm Airport. While in 2010, L&T in a consortium with Galfar Engineering and Contracting bagged a US$764mn order from the Government of Oman to develop the new Salalah International Airport. Out of the total value of US$746mn, L&T’s scope of work was worth approximately US$500mn.
